Donations of every kind are very special here. Melody says it is like Christmas anytime we receive a donation. Some donations are important everyday items. However, we do get items that are very unique, old, or just odd.
We research these types of items, from what they are, how much, and how old. It is very fun learning about these types of items.
Every month Flying Pig Thrift will feature one of the items that was donated.
When it sells we will keep the item up, but it will say sold.
We hope you enjoy learning about some of the unique items that get donated here at Flying Pig Thrift just as much as we do!
The information regarding these facts are from Equine Heritage Institute (http://www.equineheritageinstitute.org/).
Humans and horses have co-existed together over 6,000 years. We have gone from consuming horse to watching them race, and some even become family members. Horses were first domesticated in the Ukraine around 4,000 BC .
As of 2006 the United States has the most horses in the world; followed by China, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina. From the same data, Texas has the most, followed by California, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Ohio.
The first yokes used on horses were made for oxen, but fitted for horses. These yokes pinched the horse making it difficult to breathe. The Chinese created a yoke for the horse that was suited for their body type, 1,000 years before Europe.
