Flying Pig Thrift is a non-profit and like all non-profits it is run by a board. The board consists of eight members.
Tim Bosworth ~ Treasurer
Hello Everyone! I’m a financial advisor based in blazing hot Austin, TX, and I couldn’t be happier to help support Flying Pig Thrift. Having known Melody and Charlie for years, I’ve actually been a part of this project since before the start, but joined the board once the non-profit was officially launched. Blown away by Melody’s and Charlie’s passion and enthusiasm, I wanted to be a part of this organization primarily for two reasons: first, I see the value that a thrift store brings to the local community; and second, because of our goal of supporting other non-profits that focus on social justice. It’s a win-win! My plan is to continue pitching in as the “numbers nerd” for as long as they’ll have me. My ultimate hope is that a few years down the road, we’ve got a large and loyal customer base in the area, and as a result we’re able to make substantial donations to other organizations that make the world a better place to live.
Jane Cox ~ Board Member
Jane is a volunteer herself and a Chapter Lead for Moms Demand Action. She is also an original board member and has been supporting Flying Pig Thrift from the very beginning. Jane joined the board bringing positivity and a sense of humor. As a supporter of thrift stores, she brings encouragement to our project and shares her experiences ad observations of the thrift market. She has agreed to be our “odd projects person” who will take on short term projects at a particular time. For example, she completed a “mystery shopper” task when she collected a range of process of inventory form other thrift stores for our comparison and reality checking.
Douglas Engebretson ~ Board Member
Doug is a volunteer and also on the board. He is retired and worked for the Target Corp. for 23 years, in their department store division Dayton’s Department Store. Doug worked in sales working in various departments: 15 years in consumer electronics, 3 years in home store/furniture, 3 years in sporting goods, 2 years in men's apparel/shoes.
His job responsibilities were customer service, including developing terminals/registers, and housekeeping. Doug currently volunteers at the Fishes and Loaves Food Shelf at Progressive Baptist Church and delivers flowers, visits residents at Serenity Senior, and Ramsey County Senior Care in Saint Paul.
Tiffini Flynn Forslund ~ Board Member
Tiffini has 14 years investment and finance experience and 10 years in education. She has been on the Gender Justice Board and Kids At Risk Action and is a Roy Wilkins Fellow for public policy, Advanced Methods Academy and a Katie Williams CARE Fellow for Early Childhood Advocacy and Public Policy. She was Secretary for the Minneapolis Alliance PAC with budget of $225, 000. Midwest Supervised Visitation is her family court/legal business since 2008. In 2017 she ran for Minneapolis City Council. Tiffini is currently a circle keeper with the Dispute Resolution Center and is also teaching Science and Social Studies at Friendship Academy of the Arts.
Linford Leitch ~ Board Member
Linford participated in the HandsOnTwinCities - Strategy Impact Day 2020 - Flying Pig Thrift after being introduced to Melody. Subsequently, after this meeting he was asked to become a board member. The mission of the Flying Pig Thrift is what truly attracted him to becoming a board member. Flying Pig Thrift's passion in addressing social justice shows through their continuous support of other nonprofits specific to the cause.
Unique to Flying Pig Thrift is the Sister Wall feature in the shop. Not only does it share the founding story of the shop, but serves as a reminder of the mission and service behind the name and the community.
As a board member, his aim is to help share the legacy behind the Flying Pig Thrift and to help build connections with the local community. Within the next 5 years he would like the Flying Pig Thrift to be a focal point for the community, including supporting local artists and expanding our network to continue to make an impact.
Charlie Luepke ~ Secretary
Charlie is a singer/songwriter and wrote a song about the Flying Pig! “Flying Pig Thrift” was Charlie's idea. He began with the board at the inception of the board back in April and May of 2019. Charlie wanted to be on the board because he knew Heather and wanted to be involved in starting a Thrift Shop in her honor. Charlie thinks one of the unique things about our shop is our vision, giving our profits to non-profits. The way he contributes is helping to organize the topics and keep the Board on track to continue to provide innovative ideas. Charlie hope that in 5 years we will be well-established, with a solid customer base and donation stream!
Mark Nelson ~ Vice Chair
Mark is a volunteer at Flying Pig Thrift, an artist here too and a board member. Mark is an artist, self-employed interior painter, lover of nature and devoted husband.
